Watch: Clip From Pixar Short 'The Blue Umbrella' That Will Play In Front Of 'Monsters University'

null"Monsters University" will be the last sequel we'll have to endure (for now) from Pixar before their more exciting offerings on the slate, including "The Inside Out," "The Untitled Pixar Movie about The Día de los Muertos" and "The Good Dinosaur," arrive. But for those salivating for some original content from the animation studio, their shorts have always delivered, and it looks like "The Blue Umbrella" will be another standout.

Set to pay in front of "Monsters University" later this year, the first clip for the short film has dropped, and as always, it looks charming as hell. Directed by Saschka Unseld, a camera and staging artist who has worked for Pixar since 2008, the story follows a blue umbrella who becomes enamored of a red umbrella, before nature drives them apart. But thanks to some neighborhood objects, they get reunited. The director told The Wall Street Journal that a discarded umbrella in the gutter gave him the inspiration for the film.

“It was the saddest thing,” he explained. “I stood there and wondered what had happened to him. I think that was when I got the idea of giving him a story.”

Featuring the music of Sarah Jaffe, "The Blue Umbrella" will arrive in theaters on June 21st. Watch below.
