It’s not every day that you’ll find arthouse mainstay Juliette Binoche appearing in what looks like a very familiar rom-com, but perhaps that’s part of the allure of “Words And Pictures.” And with Clive Owen opposite to woo the actress, one certainly can’t complain about the casting.
Directed by Fred Schepisi, the film is set at a prep school where a carefully rumpled and slightly damaged English professor takes a curmudgeonly shine to an abstract painter and teacher. Together they’ll inspire in each creativity and passion, even as they battle for the hearts and minds of the students, and over whether words or pictures are better. Yeah, it’s kinda hokey and obvious but again, Owen and Binoche are pretty watchable even if the movies around them aren’t always so hot.
