He might not be showing any signs of returning to filmmaking, preferring to focus on releasing music and tutoring Louie in how to host a late-night show, but that doesn’t mean David Lynch has given up entirely. The director’s been intimately involved with the new Blu-ray set for his seminal and hugely influential TV show “Twin Peaks,” which hits at the end of July, and the first fruits of that are starting to appear online.
The new release features a host of extras, and CBS has been quietly releasing sneak peeks at them on their Tumblr, on what’s called ‘Twin Peaks Tuesday.’ And after some rather low-key ones—a look at the restoration of the show, and something called an ‘Atmospheric,’ something more substantial has appeared, with a black-and-white clip of the director interviewing “Twin Peaks” character Leland Palmer (played again by Ray Wise) in-character, twenty-five years on from the end of the show. Keen fans will remember that Palmer in the show, but as Lynch acknowledges with his first question, that’s no obstacle to the two sitting down for coffee.
It’s a great, and very Lynchian, glimpse at what to expect from the set, and it’s a real treat to see Wise back in character. There’ll be more to come on Tuesdays in the coming weeks before “Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery” hits stores on July 29th. Take a look at all the footage below.
