Among all the many, many films that have screened in Toronto over the last few days, one of the oddest festival fits might be "The Equalizer. A big studio remake of an 1980s action TV show that they’re so confident in a sequel’s already being written, it’s not the kind of film that traditionally needs a festival bounce, especially with major movie star like Denzel Washington in the lead role.
But nevertheless, Sony chose to premiere "The Equalizer" at TIFF, and with the film’s wide release sneaking up, a few more clips have been released to entice audiences further. One sees Washington squaring off against the film’s villain, a Russian mob enforcer played by Marton Csokas, and the other sees him meeting Chloe Moretz, playing a teenage prostitute and aspiring singer.
But wait, there’s more! There’s also a short featurette that focuses on Washington’s special abilities and fighting techniques. We reviewed the film over the weekend, where our writer called it "the most enjoyable bad movie I’ve seen in a long time." You can find out if you agree or not when "The Equalizer" opens on September 19th. In the meantime, watch the clips below, along with a couple of new photos.
