One of the more unlikely movies hitting next year’s Berlin Film Festival is "Cinderella," but it does have some cinephile points going for it. Respected actor, director, and Shakespeare fan Kenneth Branagh is at the helm, and the cast includes folks like Cate Blachett (who will also be in Berlin with Terrence Malick‘s "Knight Of Cups"), Helena Bonham Carter, Stellan Skarsgard, and Derek Jacobi in roles. But let’s face it, this is still a Disney blockbuster at the end of the day and once again, the studio is hoping a live action take on an old story will bring in the bucks, not unlike this years’s "Sleeping Beauty" prequel, "Maleficent."
A new international trailer has arrived for the film, and Disney has given a VFX boost to their classic animated version. However, for all the handsome production design on display, the earnest performance from lead Lily James, and Blanchett biting into her role as the stepmother from hell, you sorta of just wish you were watching the 1950 movie instead. But hey, if you always envisioned "Cinderella" dripping with CGI, this might work for you.
"Cinderella" casts a spell on March 13th. Watch below.
