Watch: Dum Dum Girls Short Film 'Are You Okay' Written By Bret Easton Ellis, Starring Shiloh Fernandez

Are You Okay

As you might surmise from recent gigs that include a still mysterious project for Kanye West, and Manson family TV series with Rob Zombie, “American Psycho” and “The Canyons” writer Bret Easton Ellis doesn’t pen anything safe or easily digestible. And even when it comes to writing a short film for noise-pop outfit Dum Dum Girls, the result is appropriately surreal, eerie and creepy.

The Sub Pop band has dropped “Are You Okay,” an eleven-minute short film penned by Ellis, starring frontwoman Dee Dee Penny and Shiloh Fernandez, and directed by Brewer (no, not Craig Brewer, just Brewer). And it’s a twisted little psychological thriller that starts with a therapy session and goes to some places that you’d probably just be better off watching yourself, but stick through to the end when it really dials up intensity. Didn’t have your morning cup of coffee? This will provide the jolt you need. And yes, it does feature the Dum Dum Girls tune in there too.

“Are You Okay” is on the album Too True, in stores now. Watch below.
