Watch: Earth Is A Memory In New Trailer For Tom Cruise's 'Oblivion'

nullWe have to say, with each passing trailer, Joseph Kosinski‘s upcoming “Oblivion” looks better and better. What once seemed like a “Wall-E” for adults has become something of an anticipated sci-fi tentpole, boasting an intriguing concept, some pretty impressive effects and a vibe we can get down with, and this latest trailer has once again upped the ante.

The film stars Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher Harper, one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on a scarred, largely abandoned Earth. But everything changes when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft, kicking off events that put the future of humanity in his hands (obviously). While the various sci-fi references are numerous and perhaps obvious — “Solaris” and “2001: A Space Odyssey” come to mind, thanks to the mysterious beauties and HAL-ish computers — and the appearance of Morgan Freeman almost a gimme, this all still feels a bit exciting. Maybe we’re lightheaded from the emptiness at the multiplex right now, but this could be the meaty popcorn entertainment we’ve been craving.

“Oblivion” opens on April 12th. Watch below.
