A few short weeks ago, we reported on the soundtrack to Ryan Murphy’s spiritual, you-go-girl, finding-yourself voyage, “Eat Pray Love” starring Julia Roberts. And now, by popular demand of course, we have the music video for Eddie Vedder’s “Better Days,” an original song the Pearl Jam singer wrote for the film, and all things considered it’s not bad. Or at least it works within the context of the film which we saw last night and isn’t terrible, at least not at first, but begins to grate with an exorbitant running time (also congratulations cinematographer Robert Richardson on overdoing the honey-glow halo look throughout). Though special note to James Franco who we normally like: you’re terrible in this film, please never make these acting choices again (it’s possible he might just have been stoned for the entire shoot, either that or its just a perennial pained-expression method).
Anywhoo, back to the song. The video is below. Much has been made about the songs featured in various trailers — “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine and “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap (already used to better affect in “500 Days of Summer”), but neither track is on the CD, so don’t get too excited. And the the Eddie Vedder & Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan track “The Long Road” is appropriated from the “Dead Man Walking” soundtrack. “Eat, Pray, Love” hits theaters tomorrow, August 13. Our review later today. The soundtrack has been out since July 20.
