Watch: Eli Roth Gets All Shook Up In Trailer For 'Aftershock'

nullAs we head into 2013, here's one resolution we're calling for: no more directors acting in their own movies. No matter what you think of "Django Unchained," it's hard to argue that Quentin Tarantino's cameo as an Australian (!?) cowboy is nothing short of embarrassing. And now we have Eli Roth as…a quippy, cool as fuck horror lead? We would say the acting is bad, but we can't tell if the horrible dialogue is making it worse.

Either way, the first trailer for the blood spattering "Aftershock" is here. Co-written by Latin-American filmmakers Nicolás López (who also directs), Guillermo Amoedo and Roth, and starring and presented by Roth as well, the disaster thriller "Aftershock" is centered around the February 27, 2010 Chilean earthquake, with the fictional story about an insane asylum whose inmates are freed during the earthquake. Selena Gomez makes a cameo in this, but mostly, it looks like the direct-to-DVD level fare Roth tends to dabble in these days, perhaps with a bit of a better budget. If anything, it's looks greasier and sweatier than most, so maybe Roth had an app for that.

Our pal Brad at RopeOfSilicon called it "a film I truly wish I could erase from my memory" after seeing it at TIFF, so fair warning. "Aftershock" rumbles in 2013 courtesy of The Weinstein Company's VOD shingle Radius.
