Here’s a friendly reminder that when it comes to animated films, you have options outside the usual Hollywood stuff from Pixar, Fox and DreamWorks, that are no less creative and charming. A new trailer for the Oscar nominated “Ernest & Celestine” is here, and it’ll send some warm vibes your way.
Building buzz on the festival circuit last year with stops in Cannes and TIFF among other places, the story follows the unlikely bond forged between artist, dreamer and mouse Celestine and a musician/poet bear named Ernest. Their friendship goes against the rules of the world around them where mice and bears don’t interact, with the film offering a charming parable about prejudice. It really does look like good-hearted fare, and the English voice cast (the original film is in French) is pretty top shelf with the unmistakable Lauren Bacall joined by Forest Whitaker, Mackenzie Foy, Paul Giamatti, William H. Macy, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, and Jeffrey Wright.
“Ernest & Celestine” opens on February 28th in LA, March 14th in NYC and will expand from there. Watch below.
