Watch: Exclusive Clip From 'The Sweeney' Introduced By Ray Winstone

nullWhile on this side of the ocean "The Sweeney" may not be a familiar title, in the UK it's something of a touchstone. The British crime series only ran for four seasons during the 1970s, but it was enough to make a tremendous creative and cultural impact, serving as inspiration for recent show "Life On Mars." And while "The Sweeney" spawned two films in 1977 and 1978, it has been refreshed for a new generation, bringing cops Jack Regan and John Carter back into action.

Starring Ray Winstone and musician/actor/filmmaker Ben Drew, the film finds the detectives of the Flying Squad back on the streets, hunting down an armed robber whose criminal ties could go much further, while dealing with personal blowback from within thanks to their unorthodox methods. And as you'll see in this exclusive clip from the movie, introduced by Winstone himself, Regan and Carter do try and toe the legal line, even if it means letting someone they know is guilty walk away free.

Co-starring Hayley Atwell, Steven Mackintoch, Paul Anderson, Alan Ford and Damian Lewis and directed by Nick Love ("The Football Factory"), "The Sweeney" opens in theaters and will be available On Demand starting on Friday, March 1st.
