What nearly eight months ago could have been seen as the triumph of dedicated fans has now—after a controversial Kickstarter campaign—become a sort of rallying point for people decrying the broken state of the film industry. As seen in the reel premiered earlier this year, “Veronica Mars” probably isn’t a film built for that level of scrutiny. What it is built for, as seen in the new featurette (via Empire), are arguments about which beau is better for Kristen Bell’s retired sleuth.
Released yesterday, the four-minute-long video highlights the love triangle at the center of the film (of the entire short-lived series, really) of Bell’s Mars, all-around swell guy Piz (Chris Lowell) and the passionate and hot Logan Echols (Jason Dohring). The film, set ten years after the end of the series, follows Mars, now shacked up with Piz, back to her hometown to investigate the murder her old flame, Echols, is accused of. To paraphrase the “Veronica Mars” theme song: along time ago, they used to be friends…
Creator and writer-director Rob Thomas is in post-production with the film with test screenings already being done, saying “The crowd reaction was everything I hoped for. People were laughing and gasping and cheering.” The rest of us will have to see for ourselves when it sees release sometime next year. Check out the featurette below.
