Watch: Extensive 30-Minute Talk With Ninja Of Die Antwoord About 'Chappie,' Working With Neill Blomkamp And More

ChappieAs Neill Blomkamp‘s "Chappie" rolls into cinemas, word emerged earlier this week about the rumored contentious behavior of Die Antwoord rapper Ninja on the set of the movie. And indeed, along with collaborator Yo-Landi Visser, the pair have been notably absent from the press mill for the sci-fi flick. But Boing Boing sat down for a great, half hour talk with Ninja about the movie that is a must watch.

The rapper discusses his long friendship with Blomkamp, who had initially cast him as "Elysium" (where he would’ve had to speak in an American accent), before scheduling forced him out. Ninja also confirms that Yo-Landi was in contention for David Fincher‘s "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," but again, the timing didn’t work. Ultimately it didn’t matter, because Blomkamp’s "raw blockbuster" perfectly captured Die Antwoord’s "Zef style," and Ninja describes the movie as a "raw blockbuster" that’s "punk as fuck." And oh yeah, he cried at the end.

Check it out below along with some new features and TV spots for "Chappie" (and read our review).
