In a summer where a number of movies have failed to live up to expectations, one of the dicier propositions has been “The Legend Of Tarzan.” Warner Bros have been developing a new take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ ape-raised hero for years, and David Yates, who directed half the “Harry Potter” movies, was the man put in charge.
But few have really gotten enthusiastic about the new take, which sees Alexander Skarsgard’s Tarzan return to Africa, with wife Jane (Margot Robbie) in tow, to battle evil Belgian colonialists led by Christoph Waltz, and early box office tracking hasn’t been great. But what if the film turns out to be a surprise in waiting? “The Jungle Book” and “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” are two recent blockbusters (both coincidentally animal-themed) that looked dire from a distance but actually turned out to be superior, and a final trailer for the movie, via Deadline, hopes to convince you that this is going down a similar path.
Also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou and Jim Broadbent, among others, the film certainly looks expensive, and has the potential to be rather sturdier than some of the big disappointments from earlier this year. Whether the studio can summon up audiences in a big way remains to be seen, but Yates is a fairly safe pair of hands, so we hope he can come through this time as well. Watch the trailer above.
