I haven’t watched "Doctor Who" since probably sometime in the ’80s, but somewhat remarkably, the sci-fi series has endured and become something a massive favorite among TV audiences. And when it was announced last year that Matt Smith was leaving the role after playing it for three years, it started a wave of speculation and talk about who would be his replacement (we had our own choices). Respected actor and longtime "Doctor Who" fan Peter Capaldi landed the coveted gig, and now the first full trailer has arrived showing off the fresh face of the series.
And again, I haven’t watched this show in forever, but the vibe here is very "Doctor Who Into Darkness," for better or worse. He looks to be a man haunted by his mistakes this time around, but there’s also the sense of adventure the series is known for throughout the brief spot. There’s no shortage of weird creatures, including dinosaurs, Daleks and steampunky goodness, and perhaps most intriguing is the character himself who has doubts about his own integrity. So I’ll leave it to the longtime "Doctor Who" fans — what do you think?
"Doctor Who" returns to BBC One on August 23rd. Watch below. [Deadline]
