While the return of “Arrested Development” and the finale of “Breaking Bad” are among the big television events of 2013, one big contender for 2014 has to be “The Spoils Of Babylon.” The comedy event series brings together a great cast — Will Ferrell, Kristin Wiig, Tobey Maguire, Jessica Alba, Michael Sheen, Val Kilmer, Tim Robbins and Haley Joel Osment — for a comedic take on sprawling family dramas like “The Thorn Birds” and “Winds Of War.” And the first teaser is pretty spot on.
Though it features no actual footage, because shooting hasn’t started yet, the promo plays up the fictional author Eric Jonrosh, who the press release tells us, is the man behind 57 best sellers in 85 different languages, most of which have the world “spoils” in the title (“The Spoils of Galaxy 7,” “The Spoils of Grasping for God,” “The Spoils of the Sahara,” “The Spoils of the Singing Night Squirrel,” “The Spoils of the Weeping Falcon,” and “The Spoils Beneath the Sea” among them).
That’s the name that takes center stage here, with the trailer promising that the Matt Piedmont directed six part series will come to you in 93mm Breath-Take-O-Scope. Take that Paul Thomas Anderson!
“I’m thrilled my masterwork is finally making it to the screen, albeit the small screen. Although I guess these days people have pretty big screens in their homes but still not as big as ‘the big screen.’ I mean, some people who have home theaters might have screens that big, but most wouldn’t, at least that’s what I would imagine,” Jonrosh said. “Still, I’m thrilled, and I personally DO have a giant screen TV so….”
No premiere date yet, but this is one we’re eager to see. [ScreenRant]
