Watch: First Trailer For Gillian Flynn's 'Dark Places' Starring Charlize Theron, Chloë Moretz, And Nicholas Hoult

nullSo… what happened? Even before we got our first look at David Fincher‘s "Gone Girl," in late 2013 that other Gillian Flynn adaptation, "Dark Places," released its first image. And then a deafening silence followed. Along the way, cult/arthouse distributors A24 picked up the movie, and it was pretty much assumed that "Gone Girl" and "Dark Places" would stay out of each other’s way. We didn’t expect that the picture would suddenly open up overseas with little in the way of advance fanfare, but that’s right, in just one month "Dark Places" arrives in France. And the first trailer is here.

Featuring a pretty terrific ensemble of Charlize TheronCorey Stoll, Tye Sheridan, Chloë Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Sterling Jerins and Christina Hendricks with Gilles Paquet-Brenner ("Sarah’s Key") directing, the story follows Libby Day (Theron), who as a teenager witnesses her family get murdered, and testifies against her brother when he is tried for the crime. 25 years later, Libby is brought before the secretive, crime-solving Kill Club who want to uncover the truth about what happened. So yes, another pulpy tale from Flynn, but perhaps not executed with the same level of panache as Fincher.

No word yet on a U.S. release date. "Dark Places" has its premiere screening in Paris on March 30th and opens on April 8th. Watch below.
