Watch: First Trailer For Guillermo Del Toro-Produced 'The Book Of Life,' Plus New Photos

The Book Of LifeWith Guillermo del Toro busy with his next feature effort “Crimson Peak” and prepping his TV series “The Strain” to drop this summer, his already-full dance card also includes “The Book Of Life” (formerly known as “Day Of The Dead“), an animated feature that boasts his name as a producer. And today brings the first trailer for your eyeballs.

Voiced by Channing Tatum, Diego Luna and Zoe Saldana (with voice appearances by Placido Domingo and rapper Ice Cube), the story follows Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears.

“Manolo and my character Joaquin were best friends, we were all like the Three Musketeers,” Tatum told USA today of his hero character and his first major animated role. “But craziness ensues as the gods wager. Things happen that people won’t expect, I can guarantee that.”
“It goes to a place of sour grapes and deep hurt to the point of losing their friendship,” he adds. “But friendship always wins. That’s the message of this story: love and friendship and what you’re willing to sacrifice for these ideas.”
Directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, “The Book Of Life” arrives just in time for Halloween on October 17th. Watch below.
