Watch: First Trailer For Luca Guadagnino's 'A Bigger Splash' With Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ralph Fiennes & Dakota Johnson

nullWhile Luca Guadagnino‘s "A Bigger Splash" is ostensibly a remake of Jacques Deray‘s "The Swimming Pool," starring Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, the director wants to make it clear he’s very much made the material his own. "When they suggested that I come back to that film, I’d seen it only once, when I was 15 years old. I tried to watch it with screenwriter David Kajganich, but the Blu-ray didn’t work," he told Cineuropa. "It’s a story that’s been seen a thousand times, ‘The Rules of the Game‘ by Jean Renoir… I was fascinated by it because it allowed me to film the invisible — in other words, desire — as a force and as the essence that is the driving force behind everything, and which produces extreme results."

Uh, okay, but more clearly, his film stars the mouthwatering cast of  Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Matthias Schoenaerts in the story of a rock star and filmmaker whose holiday gets an unexpected disruption. Here’s the official synopsis:

Rock legend Marianne Lane is recuperating on the volcanic island of Pantelleria with her partner Paul when iconoclast record producer and old flame Harry unexpectedly arrives with his daughter Penelope and interrupts their holiday, bringing with him an A-bomb blast of delirious nostalgia from which there can be no rescue. A Bigger Splash is a sensuous portrait of laughter, desire, and rock and roll detonating into violence under the Mediterranean sun.

Featuring a beautiful cast and an equally beautiful backdrop, we called this picture "a solid, buzzy rock ‘n’ roll album track" of a movie. "A Bigger Splash" hits BFI London Film Festival shortly, and opens in Italy on November 26th. It won’t reach U.S. cinemas until May 13, 2016. Watch the first international trailer below.
