No matter how good Nicolas Cage‘s intentions tend to be—see our interview in Berlin from last year, where the actor suggests he wants to try working with more auteurs and doing more intimate work—there always tends to be some pay-the-bills-looking shlock around the corner. Cage might have recently said David Gordon Green‘s “Joe” was his best performance in ages, but maybe that matters little when there’s a “Left Behind” following it up.
We’ve already seen the pretty glorious first clip from the film, and now comes the full trailer, and you can now see the full results of what happens when Cage is unleashed to do a remake of a Kirk Cameron hit. Veteran stuntman Vic Armstrong (“Raiders Of The Lost Ark,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit“) directs this one that sounds a little like HBO‘s “The Leftovers,” about a group of survivors left behind after the world is plunged into an apocalyptic wasteland. Oh, and this is based on a best-selling book series co-written by a guy who’s not a fan of gays and thinks the Illuminati secretly runs the world.
The movie drops on October 3rd. Say your prayers and watch below.
