While the "celebrity using Kickstarter" trend seemed to have a moment this year with fan funded "Veronica Mars" and Zach Braff‘s "Wish I Was Here" hitting cinemas, it seems the novelty of handing over your money to the pet projects of industry professionals has worn off a bit. And if it hasn’t, Spike Lee‘s "Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus" might do the trick. He also passed the hat for his latest effort, and it might be the worst received of them all (here’s our review). However, it has found a distributor and you can judge for yourself.
Starring Stephen Tyrone Williams, Elvis Nolasco and Zaraah Abrahams, the loose remake of Bill Gunn’s 1973 horror cult film “Ganja & Hess” follows Dr. Hess Green, whose encounter with a mysterious cursed artifact finds him uncontrollably thirsty for blood (he’s not a vampire). Soon a death and deadly romance opens up questions about the very nature of love, addiction, sex and status. So, lots of Big Themes wrapped in a genre flick, or so it would seem.
"Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus" arrives on February 13, 2015. Watch the trailer below.
