Watch: First Trailer For 'The Conjuring' The Latest Loud Noises Horror From The Guy Behind 'Insidious' & 'Saw'

nullWhile everyone likes to complain about them, the bottom line is audiences love loud noises horror movies. You know, the ones where cameras linger on empty rooms or closets in dead silence only for something to bump in the night. Hell, the "Paranormal Activity" franchise has milked that conceit for four movies to the tune of over $350 million domestic, and that's not even counting the hundreds of millions more raked in overseas. And "Saw" creator James Wan knows how to do loud noises really well. "Insidious" was a surprise sensation making nearly $100 million worldwide on a paltry $1.5 million budget and now he's aiming for summer money.

His latest, "The Conjuring," may star Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, but the first trailer is all Lili Taylor, who wonders around a pretty rundown house following some weird sounds only to run into some scary shit in the basement. Obviously. Why people in movies still go into dark creepy cellars is beyond us, but ticketbuyers don't seem to care. The actual plot follows a married couple who just so happen to be demonologists, and they enter the most terrifying case of their career when they tangle with spirits at a Rhode Island farmhouse. And it's based on a true story! (lol, whatever)

Anyway, this will arrive on July 19th, suggesting Warner Bros. believes this one is gonna be huge, and we'll say this: the title font is pretty cool. And if you can't get enough Wan-inspired loud noises horror, "Insidious 2" drops in August. Watch below. [FilmDrunk]
