You might be wondering why Denzel Washington would ever decide to take on a movie based on an ’80s TV show. But when it comes to “The Equalizer,” the actor only cared about one thing. “The title doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s the material,” he told USA Today. “It’s a classic story, the innocent girl and the guy coming in to save the day and kick some butt. You’ll get some popcorn and escape for a couple of hours.”
And frankly, that’s about all the endorsement we need from Washington, with the first trailer from the film now arriving. Co-starring Chloe Moretz, Haley Bennett and Martin Csokas, the movie follows a former government operative, now working a regular retail gig, who is pulled back into his old life to protect a young woman. And many assess will be handed to people, Denzel style, with his “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua at the helm.
“There’s a switch that (Washington) turns on and that’s just scary,” the filmmaker said. “There’s a sustained intensity even in casual mode, like a panther. If it’s turned against you, you’re going to be in a bad place.”
“The Equalizer” arrives on September 26th. Check out the trailer, pics and poster below.
