There were a lot of movies that made noise this year at the Sundance Film Festival, but none emerged so clearly as an Oscar contender than John Crowley‘s "Brooklyn." And now the first trailer for the movie that’s sure to make an awards season splash has arrived.
Saoirse Ronan takes the lead in the adaptation of Colm Toibin‘s book about an Irish immigrant making her way through life and love in New York City in the 1950s. Our review called the film "a superb, luminous, and bittersweet portrayal of who we are, where we’ve come from, where we’re going, and the places we call home." Sounds good to me. Here’s the official synopsis:
BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.
