Watch: First Trailer For Tim Burton's Black & White Animated 'Frankenweenie'

nullWell, this is a bit odd. If you're waiting for the first trailer for "Dark Shadows" — due out in just a few short months — today is not your lucky day, but not all is lost as Tim Burton fans do get a treat in the shape of a trailer for the director's Halloween offering, "Frankenweenie."

Nope, it's not a remake or a fairy tale or an adaptation of a book/TV show/whatever — it's actually a full-length version of Burton's 1984 short film of the same name, an exciting prospect if only because it returns the director to his roots, where his films had much more imagination and verve than they seem to have now. Disney is backing the film, and surprisingly letting him embrace the black-and-white aesthetic that was part of the charm of the original. And this new trailer really does feel like a big hearted throwback to his "Edward Scissorhands"/"Beetlejuice" era films. With a voice cast that includes Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Martin Landau and Catherine O’Hara, the movie will center around a young Victor Frankenstein who reanimates his dog after it's struck by a car. And yeah, things get complicated.

"Frankenweenie" opens on October 5th. Check out the trailer below. [HeyUGuys/Yahoo]
