The Shaolin Temple

While Justin Lin‘s next gig will be revving up “Bourne 5for release next year, he hasn’t stopped adding projects to his potential slate. Indeed, over the past year or so, Lin’s name has become linked with no shortage of projects of various size and scope, but none of them are quite like this.

Lin is planning to direct a remake of Jet Li‘s 1982 debut film, “The Shaolin Temple.” The kung fu flick follows a lowly slave worker, who trains with shaolin monks, and then uses his skills to kill the emperor of the Tang dynasty who killed this father (and also brutally took over the throne). The remake will be massive, with promises of 3D, a $100 million plus budget and “an A+ list Hollywood writer to tackle the story” according to CEO of Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment, Troy Craig Poon. Basically, they want this thing to be a blockbuster, which in today’s climate isn’t any real surprise. And to cater to the growing importance of the Eastern markets, this will be in Mandarin.

But the question is whether lots of razzle dazzle can improve on the modest ambitions of the original. Well, see yourself—watch the entire 1982 movie below. [Deadline]
