Unless you are dead inside, or have lived your life without ever seeing “Sesame Street” (in which case, we feel sorry for you), then you already know that Elmo is one of the most beloved felt covered characters to emerge from the program. It’s pretty much impossible to resist his buoyant energy and pure joy and especially for little kids, his googly eyes alone are enough to thrill and delight. Now get ready for story behind the man who brought him to life.
“Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey” was one of the most talked about documentaries coming out of Sundance earlier this year, walking away with a Special Jury Prize. Pretty much everyone who has seen it has fallen head over heels for the film and by all accounts this one will punch you in the emotional nutsack. Directed by Constance Marks, the film chronicles the journey of Kevin Clash, the unlikely voice and mastermind behind Elmo. It’s actually pretty remarkable to see Elmo’s voice coming out such an unlikely person, but the trailer promises a pretty rousing tale of man who stuck to his passions and prevailed.
Anyhow, there’s always room for a little more Elmo so watch the trailer below. The film opens in limited release starting October 21st in New York City and will roll out from there. [IndieWire]
