The Force is strong this Friday, and we have some fun tidbits to kick off the weekend for all you “Star Wars” fans. For weeks, rumors have been flying about when and where the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (aka “Episode VII”) teaser trailer would hit screens. Well, it finally made its grand debut, and as with any much-awaited trailer, the parodies came along for the ride.
For instance, check out this Wes Anderson-style remix (via The Verge). In his “Galactical Motion Picture,” Jonah Feingold brilliantly captures the essence of an Anderson flick, complete with “hooded ruffians,” “magnificent spectacles,” and a French soundtrack.
Or if Wes Anderson’s not your cup of tea, why not try this “Spaceballs” inspired remash? “Spaceballs” of course, for those who haven’t seen it (for shame), is Mel Brooks’ hilariously genius “Star Wars” parody. Using “Spaceballs” clips, the trailer overlays audio from the ‘Episode 7’ teaser.
Of course, the internet hasn’t exclusively been up to creating parody trailers. Check out this 1983 interview clip we found of Mark Hamill discussing Luke Skywalker’s future endeavors. In it, Skywalker himself claims, “[George Lucas] at one time said, ‘would you consider playing an Obi-Wan type character handing Excalibur down to the next generation?’ I said, ‘when would that be?’ At the time, he said, ‘Oh, around 2011.’” That was over 30 years ago. Clearly, “Star Wars” was well-mapped out. Or Lucas is just scary prophetic.
Or maybe he’s indecisive. In 2008, in an interview with Total Film (via Cinephilia & Beyond), Lucas said there would be no further "Star Wars" episodes at all. Oops. See the full quote below.
Lastly, though the new “Star Wars” is going to take advantage of all the CGI there is to bring that distant galaxy to life, the movies weren’t always made that way. These on-set pictures of the making of “Star Wars: Episode IV” are amazing. Explosions! Chases! The Death Star! And none of it with a green screen.
