Watch: Go On A Hellbent Holiday With The U.S. Trailer For Ben Wheatley's 'Sightseers'; 'A Field In England' Sets U.K. Date

nullWe know we’ve droned on and on about Ben Wheatley for the past forever, and certainly the man’s neverending stream of projects always keeps us on the tip of our toes. But for most of you out there, the only exposure you’ve had to the filmmaker has likely been through “Down Terrace” or “Kill List,” and while there has been much ink spilled over “Sightseers,” it spent most of 2012 on the festival circuit. Well, it’s finally coming to theaters in the U.S. and a new trailer is here promising something truly unique at the movies.

Starring Alice Lowe and Steve Oram, the premise is quite simple: a young couple, newly in love, go on their first vacation together, and soon things to turn to murder. It’s pitch black comedy, super dark but also nasty and funny stuff, and as you’ll see we’re quoted in the trailer. So instead of listing more reasons for you to see this thing, how about we just point you in the direction of our review.

And oh yeah, back to Wheatley’s string of stuff he’s working on. “A Field In England” is the next project nearing the finish line, and it has just been given a July 5th release date in the UK. The movie is a druggy period piece that is essentially about a group of deserters from an ongoing war, who consume some magic mushrooms and go on a mind-bending trip. Sounds pretty rad, and we’d wager that summer slot ups the odds that Wheatley will return to Cannes where “Sightseers” premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar.

Anyway, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. “Sightseers” hits theaters on May 10th and three days later on May 13th will be available on VOD. [HeyUGuys/Ian Sandwell]
