Watch: ‘Godzilla’ Attacks In New Clip & TV Spot Showcasing Film’s Blend of Character And Action

Godzilla

After a host of expertly realized teasers and trailers—and then a few awkward product placement spots—director Gareth Edwards’ reimagining of “Godzilla” has finally screened for critics, and the initial reactions are somewhat mixed. It’s only a week before audiences get to decide for themselves however, and so WB has continued their marketing push with a new clip and TV spot.

A great deal has been made of Edwards’ excellent choice of cast, which includes Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn and more, and to the director’s credit the choice seems to have paid off. In fact, a new TV spot first focuses on the emotional core of the film—Cranston’s character’s familial guilt and motivation for uncovering a government conspiracy—while a more extended clip (via Comic Book Movie) shows the slow reveal of the titular monster on a San Francisco bridge.

Our own Rodrigo Perez thought the film almost achieved its aims, in that it “earns your trust… but abandons most of its absorbing emotional legwork for a fairly rote and straightforward rock ‘em, sock ‘em monster movie.” Check out your assessment of Edward’s balancing act this Friday as “Godzilla” opens in theatres, and watch both the TV spot and clip below.
