Leave it to David Cronenberg's son Brandon to deliver the body horror freak fest longtime fans of his father have been aching for. With David busy exploring coiled sexuality in "A Dangerous Method" and the decline of a young billionaire in "Cosmopolis," Brandon tackles celebrity with enough blood, pus, bone and needles in "Antiviral" to fill a few movies, and the first full trailer is here to give you a taste.
Led by a game Caleb Landry Jones, who spends most of the film glowering and hunched over for reasons best left revealed when you see it, the actor plays Syd March, a worker at the Lucas Clinic, in a near future where celebrity obsession has jumped to a new level, with fans infecting themselves with the disease of their favorite star. And of course, there is a black market, and that's what Syd does after hours, but he soon gets caught up in a massive web that could very well kill him. While it's a bit uneven, and takes a while to get going, we still enjoyed the movie when we saw it at Cannes, calling it "deliciously dark [with] an undeniably unique narrative that goes to some fascinating, twisted places."
No release date yet for the film, but it will play TIFF in September and hopefully hit theaters by the end of the year courtesy of IFC Midnight. Watch below along with a promo/viral for the film. [Bleeding Cool]
