South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk works quickly, and always has a home on the festival circuit. Last year he hit Venice with “Moebius,” the year before that he was on the Lido with “Pieta” and in 2011 he was in Cannes with “Arirang.” But this year, he’s skipping such formalities and dropping a movie straight into theatres at home. And the first trailer is here.
Titled “One On One,” it seems to find the director in crime/thriller mode, with the film centering on the brutal murder of a schoolgirl, zeroing in on the “7 suspects and 7 shadows that terrorize them. Who are they and which one of them is you?” The trailer itself is a pretty harrowing one, showing the victim getting snatched off the street and bound up with tape, with a series of calm and collected phone calls happening immediately after. Yes, Kim Ki-duk, you got our attention.
“One By One” opens next month in South Korea. No word yet on if/how/when it will land stateside. [Twitch]
