It’s been five months since "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" dropped into theaters worldwide with all kinds of noise, but has it resonated at all since? There’s an argument to be made that "Mad Max: Fury Road" lodged itself far more memorably into the zeitgeist, and maybe that’s because ‘Age Of Ultron’ merely met expectations but didn’t exceed them. As the latest Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies points out, there’s probably a good reason for that.

As they note, Joss Whedon had an almost impossible task. He endeavored to make a standalone sequel, yet one that also had to nod to the upcoming likes of "Captain America: Civil War," "Black Panther," and "Thor: Ragnarok," among others. The filmmaker also had to battle Marvel honcho Kevin Feige over his vision (remember: Whedon wanted Captain Marvel to appear, which the Marvel honcho shot down). Then, when fan reaction got a bit ridiculous on Twitter, Whedon actually quit the social media service altogether.
All that said, Whedon managed to make a solid sequel under those conditions, even while dealing with expanding the core Avengers team to include even more players. It made for a movie that was both expansive and exhausting, and I can only imagine what it must’ve been like to make it, so maybe that’s why Whedon is lying low at the moment.
