So, with "Divergent" now on its way to YA franchise ubiquity, maybe it’s time to acknowledge that like "The Hunger Games" and "Twilight" before it, the story is working from a very well established template. But don’t take our word for it, as Screen Junkies is here with an Honest Trailer to highlight how this one is like the others.
Calling the Shailene Woodley starrer "The Hunger Games" but without the games, the trailer amusingly dips into the overly complicated future world the movie takes place in. We’re not sure why all these dystopian futures require a vast set of rules to keep their population under control (or what the point is), but it can get convoluted and silly. Anyway, there’s star-crossed romance, a conspiracy, and all the usual markers of the genre in "Divergent" — which you’ve seen before in other YA movies both successful and not (sorry "Beautiful Creatures") — but we’ll just let the trailer below do the explaining.
