"Magic Mike XXL" (read our review) bumps and grinds its way to multiplexes this holiday weekend, and unlike Steven Soderbergh‘s original, the sequel is coming with less darkness and more moves up, down and around the stripper pole. But Screen Junkies are taking a moment to take another look at where the franchise started, and in case you forgot, the first flick has a lot of grit to go with the glitter.
Drug problems, money woes and the curdled American dream aren’t exactly what a lot of filmgoers think of when "Magic Mike" comes to mind. But the movie inspired by Channing Tatum’s real life exploits grinding on ladies is, according to this Honest Trailer, either a really dumb version of "Boogie Nights" or a really smart version of "Showgirls."
