Watch: Honest Trailer For 'The Martian,' Where NASA Is Suddenly Super Popular And Fully Funded

The MartianA year ago, it might’ve seemed a bit crazy to suggest that Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi adventure "The Martian" would be a bonafide Oscar contender. But here we are twelve months later, and the movie is nominated for the Producers Guild Awards, a very strong indicator of Oscar success, with buzz bubbling around Scott to get a directing nomination. But was the movie, you know, actually good?

Screen Junkies takes "The Martian" to task in this week’s Honest Trailer. Presenting a version of NASA that’s barely recognizable from real life, the movie essentially puts the smartest person alive in space and then watches him figure out how to come home…. and that’s about it. Granted, it’s enjoyable for what it is — it’s fun to watch Matt Damon science-the-shit out of stuff, and it’s certainly more entertaining than any movie with so much math has a right to be.
