Just when you thought you saw everything there was to see regarding “The Master,” here comes a new minute-long trailer that will leave fans of the movie even more befuddled. As you likely remember, director Paul Thomas Anderson posted a number of different teaser clips from the film in the months leading up to its theatrical release in September. When the movie finally came out, we were all a bit surprised when there appeared to be some scenes missing in the final cut. Now, after digging through the script to uncover all the scenes that were missing in the film and sifting through all the Blu-ray/DVD extras to explore the deleted scenes that were filmed, the new international trailer for "The Master" continues to recontextualize the movie through footage in the finished product as well as the stuff on the cutting room floor.
This trailer plays out similarly to the final theatrical trailer that was released in late August with Freddie's banging on the window gradually picking up speed as the trailer goes on. The peek does show us snippets of many scenes that we have seen before, and this includes a deleted scene where Freddie posts a note saying that he’s “Going to China” and a scene where he makes out with a woman in the backseat of a car. The latter scene will be included among the deleted scenes in the Blu-ray release. The one anomaly, a scene we have never seen before, happens at the 45-second mark with Freddie fighting people off with an office chair in what appears to be a courtroom setting.
Once again, this just further adds to the enigma that surrounds “The Master.” You don’t see fans eagerly anticipating the deleted scenes for just any film, and to learn that there may be even more out there just seems tantalizing at this point. Nevertheless, you will be able to view all the deleted scenes that P.T. Anderson wants you to see when the film hits DVD and Blu-ray on February 26th.
