Fans of director Takeshi Kitano’s 2010 Japanese thriller “Outrage” were probably a little overjoyed to see that a sequel to the film entitled “Outrage Beyond” would be making its way to theaters relatively soon, and even happier when it turned out it would be playing TIFF in September. Now we’re getting a fresh look at the anticipated sequel, with a few images and a trailer (via Twitch) hitting the web.
Once again starring Kitano as Ôtomo, who **SPOILER ALERT** has seemingly been resurrected from the dead following the first “Outrage,” just as the police are launching a full-scale attack on organized crime. This sets off a ferocious yakuza struggle between the Sanno clan of the East and Hanabishi of the West – with Ôtomo at the center of it all. What began as simply internal strife in the first film has now become a nationwide war in Kitano’s latest. The trailer certainly conveys all of this violence and intensity in just under two minutes, so prepare yourself accordingly.
The images and trailer can be checked out below, and we’re certainly looking forward to catching “Outrage Beyond” at TIFF in September. No distributor has signed on to this one just yet.
