Watch: Kirsten Dunst Braces For The End Of The World In U.K. 'Melancholia' Trailer

The world is coming to an end, so what do you do: panic or accept your fate with an eerie calm? Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kirsten Dunst offer up both sides of the coin in Lars Von Trier‘s “Melancholia,” which now has a new trailer as it gears up for its U.K. release next month.

Co-starring Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Alexander Skarsgård, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier, the film is an operatic ode to depression with Dunst’s character finding relief from the crippling emotional pain she suffers from with the onset of the apocalypse. Meanwhile, her married sister tries to keep it together and come to grips with the fact that life as she knows it is doomed. While this writer wasn’t particularly a fan of the film, Dunst’s performance is undeniably one of the best of her career and movie itself might be the best looking film Von Trier has ever put on camera. This new trailer, though shorter than the spot that was unveiled a few months ago, shows off a few more new scenes and is a good set up for the film. However, don’t be fooled by the above the line credit for Alexander Skarsgård — his role in the film is pretty minor.

“Melancholia” hits TIFF and NYFF, will open in the U.K. on September 30th, go VOD in the U.S. on October 7th, which will be followed by a limited theatrical bow on November 11th. [DigitalSpy]
