Conveying the distinct experience of pot-fueled bliss, paranoia and unreality has been a goal of many filmmakers, but few have ever achieved the perfect balance. But leave it to Paul Thomas Anderson to get it right with his comedy/noir/WTF "Inherent Vice." It’s another shift in gears for the filmmaker, and one that finds Joaquin Phoenix in the middle of a mystery he can’t get out of.
Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, the film kicks off with the disappearance of a real estate mogul, bringing Phoenix’s Doc Sportello into contact with no shortage of characters in this ensemble. And you’ll get to see a variety of them in the clips below, including: Martin Short‘s deranged dentist; Benicio del Toro as a maritime lawyer; Josh Brolin as Detective "Bigfoot" Bjornsen; the hotly buzzed Katherine Waterston as Doc’s ex-girlfriend, along with Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone and more.
"Inherent Vice" opens in limited release on Friday, December 12th. Watch below, followed by a new interactive poster.
