After lots of (bloody, bloody) hype, “Evil Dead” made its presence known at SXSW and reaction was…mixed. Some dug the grim, R-rated movie while we said in our review that director “[Fede] Alvarez seems content to simply show us the ingredients: a chainsaw, the book of the dead, ‘The Classic,’ without knowing how to put them together into anything scary, involving or inventive.” But there’s no doubt there will be few things more go-for-broke hardcore horror this spring, and a couple of new clips have arrived.
First up, a very brief clip from the movie that uses the genre staple of a mirror to predictable effect. Granted, it was for television so it’s probably cut to be a bit safe, and we’re sure in the run up to the film’s release we’ll be getting more red-band type previews. Meanwhile, the movie heads to WonderCon at the end of the month, and a new teaser has been put together for that.
So give ’em both a spin — “Evil Dead” opens on April 5th. [Live For Films]
