While "Dumb & Dumber" is by no means a classic film that shouldn’t be touched, it’s also very much of a product of its time, with a lightning in the bottle zaniness that worked in 1994. Twenty years later, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are that much older, and watching them trying to recapture what looked so effortless back then is frankly painful.
Five clips have landed online for the forthcoming sequel "Dumb And Dumber To," and they are borderline unwatchable. The clips rehash old gags ("the most annoying sound in the world" becomes a fart joke), make already out of date references ("Breaking Bad"), display a forced quality throughout and lack the innocence that rendered the characters’ stupidity so appealing 20 years ago.
