2015 is a year full of spies, from Colin Firth to Melissa McCarthy to the Men From UNCLE, but the big daddy is waiting at the end of the year to potentially show them all up as pretenders to the throne: James Bond himself. Three years after “Skyfall” became easily the biggest-grossing film in the half-century-old franchise, 007 is back, bringing along the creative team behind his last movie, director Sam Mendes and writer John Logan, for “Spectre.”
As the title suggests, the film looks to return some of the superspy’s most legendary foes to the series, with Christoph Waltz’s ‘Franz Oberhauser’ long thought to be a John Harrison-style codename for archvillain Blofeld. Beyond that, the film remains mostly in the dark, with only an atmospheric teaser trailer, but a new TV spot aired during the NBA Finals has revealed some more of the action we’ll be seeing.
The first half of the clip is all familiar, but the second half is all new footage, showcasing some of the returning cast members, like Ben Whishaw’s Q (Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Rory Kinnear are all back), and the new women in 007’s life, in the shape of Lea Seydoux and Monica Belucci. Christoph Waltz remains shrouded in secrecy, and there’s no glimpse yet of Dave Bautista or Andrew Scott’s character, but we do get the first glimpses of action sequences, including a car chase through Rome, and a big snow bound setpiece involving a plane crash.
