Matt Damon is science-ing the shit out of blockbuster success right now at the box office with "The Martian," and the movie is a big one in many ways. It features a sprawling ensemble, loads of effects, and runs well over the two-hour mark. So you might not be surprised that there was some material left on the cutting room floor.
A deleted scene from the movie has arrived, showing that the Damon charm offensive was felt in every frame in the picture, whether it made the cut or not. In this sequence from astronaut Mark Watney‘s video log, we see him touching all the scientific equipment he wasn’t able to when his crew was around. It’s a comedic moment, but one can easily see why it was snipped. After that, you can sit back for a nine-minute Academy Conversation with director Ridley Scott, screenwriter Drew Goddard and composer Harry Gregson-Williams.
"The Martian" is playing now.
