Is “Elysium” the last blockbuster worth looking forward to this summer? The verdict is in on “The Lone Ranger” and it’s not good, “Pacific Rim” is still a very big question mark and “The Wolverine” at this point looks only marginally better than ‘Origins’ at best. Can Neill Blomkamp send us out of the season with a bang?
Well, Sony has dropped a new trailer for “Elysium” — basically, a shorter version of the 3 minute one from last month — and it continues to look like the marriage between brainy and brawny we’ve been hoping for. The politically tinged movie stars Matt Damon as an ex-con, just trying to get by, who gets accidentally blasted by radiation (?) leaving him with only five days to live. The cure? It’s up on the space station Elysium, run by a ruthless Jodie Foster, where the elite live in perfect, cancer-curing harmony, orbiting an Earth that has quickly become decayed and ravaged. So the solution, of course, is to kick some ass.
And yeah, this still looks pretty great, though we will say that some of the footage in here looks spoiler-y, so proceed with caution. “Elysium” hits on August 9th.
