Watch: Melissa McCarthy Is Susan Cooper In NSFW Red Band Trailer For Paul Feig’s ‘Spy’

Spy, Melissa McCarthySpy comedies are coming back in 2015 with a vengeance. In fact, the whole spy genre seems to be coming into a resurgence. In 2015, we’ll have a new Bond film in “Spectre,” and we’ll have a ‘60s throwback spy film with the film adaptation of “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” by director Guy Ritchie. But spy comedies with a comedic twist are in abundance too, there’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” — which director Matthew Vaughn abandoned the ‘X-Men’ series to make, he thought spy comedies were so due — there’s Johnny Depp in “Mordecai” and hell, we could have had a crime caper comedy if Edgar Wright got to make his version of “Ant-Man” (ok, not quite a spy comedy, but close).

We digress, there’ll be one more with Paul Feig’s “Spy.” The film stars Feig’s female muse Melissa McCarthy, plus her “Bridesmaids” co-star Rose Byrne. The movie also features Jason Statham, Jude Law, Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale, Nia Long, Peter Serafinowicz, Morena Baccarin, Allison Janney and Nargis Fakhr and centers on an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst (McCarthy) and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner falls off the grid and another top agent is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent a global disaster.

So if it sounds silly, well, yeah, that’s the point. Written by Feig, the director has been on a crazy tear since "Bridesmaids" in 2011, with "The Heat" in 2013 and now "Spy" later this summer and a "Ghostbusters" movie already queuing up fast. Due in theaters on May 22, the first trailer for “Spy” has arrived. As far as McCarthy movies go, let’s hope it’s more “Bridesmaids” and “This Is 40,” than it is “Identity Thief” and “Tammy.” Judge for yourself below.
