The summer movie season ain’t over until Meryl Streep sings. In 2008, she was part of the ensemble that scored a massive $600 million worldwide plus hit with "Mamma Mia," and while "Ricki And The Flash" isn’t a musical, Sony is hoping to tap into some of that same audience.
Co-starring Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield, Audra McDonald and Ben Platt, the Diablo Cody penned story follows an aging rocker (Streep, slinging a guitar, and years on the road) who returns home to her estranged family in the wake of a mini-crisis. Will she be forgiven for making them a second priority while she pursued her rock ‘n roll dreams? We’ll see, but Jonathan Demme ("Rachel Getting Married," "Philadelphia") is certainly the right guy to tap into those comic and dramatic emotions.
"Ricki And The Flash" arrives on August 7th. Watch below.
