We’ll go into deeper detail shortly about Neil Patrick Harris‘ hosting gig this year, but needless to say, it could’ve used a bit more pizazz. But he certainly didn’t go down without a fight, and his opening number showed why the Oscar producers hired him in the first place.
Last night’s ceremony kicked off with a big musical number, playing right into Harris’ wheelhouse. Vaguely centered around the glamour of "moving pictures," the tune was penned by the songwriters of "Frozen," featured appearances by Anna Kendrick and Jack Black, and yet still failed to spark. Later in the show, there was a brief "Birdman" spoof, but too bad the Indie Spirit Awards did it a day earlier, and way better (and also got Miles Teller to appear too).
After those two videos, check out the Best Picture nominee animated titles sequences by Henry Hobson Directing & Design. Nice work guys!
