” ‘The Rover‘… is a fascinating movie, flawed but occasionally brilliant, and it’s also not at all the film we were expecting,” our Jessica Kiang wrote about the latest from “Animal Kingdom” director David Michôd out of Cannes. And really, what else could you ask for from a summer movie? That feeling of being surprised and taken on a ride you couldn’t have predicted is rare, and one to certainly be treasured when it comes around.
And so it goes with “The Rover,” the gritty post-apocalyptic film that pairs up Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson in a story about a man whose car is stolen, and to get it back, he enlists the help of a member of the gang that snatched his vehicle. It’s a genre exercise certainly, but one that aspires to have greater thematic reach. So again, it’s not your usual Saturday afternoon at the multiplex this summer.
And so, to get you in the swing things, a new featurette takes you inside the tone of the movie, and if that’s not enough, there’s a 30-minute interview with Michod for ABC Melbourne along with a handful of TV interviews with Michôd and Pattinson for Aussie TV [via The Rover Movie Fan Site]. Check it all out below.
