"Midnight Changes Everything." Disney were attempting to be a little clever on New Year’s Eve. They released a teaser and then brand new trailer sneak peek of “Cinderella” at midnight as we all rang in 2015. "There are so many iconic moments in the film we have to do justice to,” the new Cinderella Lily James also says in this new exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from Disney’s live-action adaptation.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh — who seems to be on a tear of taking on commercial directing projects for studios like “Thor,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” and now this latest fairytale — “Cinderella” doesn’t have big name stars for leads, with Lily James best known for “Downton Abbey," while former “Game Of Thrones” thesp Richard Madden plays the handsome prince. But there’s name brand support from Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother, and more importantly, perhaps a brand like Cinderella doesn’t need a star. After all, “Alice In Wonderland” made a billion dollars with a mostly unknown Mia Wasikowska in the lead (though it didn’t hurt to have Johnny Depp in support).
Whether this live-action Disney fable can make that much money remains to be seen — it doesn’t have the 3D spectacle and massive CGI nonsense going on that suckered in audiences at the time — but as a classic romance and fairytale, the studio is surely expecting the film to be some kind of winner. We’ll find out on March 13th when “Cinderella” hits theaters. Watch the promos below.
